The SPHERES InSPIRE-II program establishes the worlds first on-orbit reconfigurable control testbed. The Universal Docking Ports and Halos enable satellite docking and undocking in 6DOF. This research supports the DARPA Phoenix project by delivering algorithms for satlet aggregation. Sensors and actuators can be combined for efficient maneuverability of the docked assembly.
The Universal Docking Port is a genderless attachment mechanism, meaning it can dock with multiple copies of itself. The flight units now include a camera for high precision relative sensing during approach and capture.
